“Students need funds from Prop 30” by: James Fantuzo

Is about how schools are to deny students who are able to be helped for the 2013 spring semester due to the $750 million they had lost for the couple of years. If prop 30 doesn’t happen, schools will lose about $250 million for this coming year of 2013. Students won’t be able to be helped especially the ones who need more help with collage. Prop 30 will help schools to helping students who are not able to afford go to school so they can get a better education.

The article " Report of the Massachusetts Board of Education" by Horace Mann was made in 1848. Mann had a career in the law and politics. He left the career and served as a president for the the Massachusetts State Senate.Mann soon also left this career and became a secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Education. He did not like the conditions that the public schools were given by the state. Mann wanted to give an opportunity to poor people the right to have a good education. He also wanted to finish with poverty. Mann was tired of seeing public schools filled with people who were able to afford to go to school. He said that all public schools should be for everyone, for the poor, middle class and for the rich.  Horace believed that each and every person deserved to have the right of an education whether they are poor or rich.

Week One

"Para Teresa" is written Spanish and English because as we Latinas use both languages to explain situations. Therefore, the narrator wrote to her classmate in what is called "Spanglish" in order to express her feelings that she went through when they were in elementary school.

I Am

I am a student at cabrillo college. I was born in Santa Cruz and raced in Watsonville. My parents came from Mexico. My mother came from zacapo, michuacan, Mexico and my father from Gomez, Farias,Mexico. Their parents came to the United States and brought them with them at a very young age to find an opportunity of having a good education and a good career. My mother graduated from middle school and stopped going to school  to help her parents with the rent and other bills. My father got to high school and also stop going to school for the same reason. Now my mother is a security officer and my father is a car sale representative. My dream career is to become a crime scene investigator. This career got my attention ever sense i was small.  I started watching Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, NCIS, NCIS: Miami  when I was 10 years old. There is another show that i love watching a lot, "Criminal Minds." It came out in 2005. It is a very non- stop thrilling show that just keeps you guessing what will happen through out each episode. I love each character in these shows because they prove that they don't give up on a case whether a case is hard or it is hard to catch  the rapist, or murderer. I am studying to become a criminal justice investigator because i want to help victims and get the bad guys and put them in jail. Sometimes obstacles come and hit us without noticing it, but  nothing will stop me from fulfilling my dreams.
