Annotated Bibliographies #2

Michael Kimmel, " The guy code". Read reading America: cultural and contexts for critical thinking and writing. University of New York. Eight Edition.

In this article, Kimmel explains how men are suppose to follow the four basic rules of  masculinity. He also explains that the masculinity starts by a parent or a older brother in the family. Men also tend to hide their feelings behind the "straight jacket."  The guy code is a collection of behaviors, values, and traits that tells what it means to be a man. Men can not show any sissy stuff. Such as, crying, showing feelings, and weakness.

Jean Kilbourne, " Two Ways a Women Can Get Hurt". Read reading America: cultural and contexts for critical thinking and writing. Eight Edition.

These ads show that women are only meant to be "slaves, bitches, and sluts" to men. Kilbourne shows that violence  and advertising ads can   affect women in every single way.

Title: Men and Women of this society

Author: Sylvia Alvarez

Date: November 18, 2012

Topic: The Prospects of women in the old days.
Analysis of Argument
Exigence: Different ways in that the society can gain respect towards the male and female gender

Intended audience: General Public

Purpose: To show readers that women can do the same jobs, and other activities as men.

Claim(s): Women deserve to have the same opportunity that men have.

Main Evidence: Trough -out the time, women have been proved that women are capable of doing the same jobs as men. They have proven that we as women can do much more in order to improve and become much bigger in the society.

Rhetorical Analysis:

Writer's Strategy 1: (Ethos)Women are meant to have the same equality as men in jobs, sports and other activities. Now women are accepted to work in companies, schools, stores, and etc.

Writer's Strategy 2: ( Logos)  In the old times, women were not allowed to work, They were meant to stay home to clean, take care of the children, etc,  while the men went to work. Women were  not accepted to work  because men thought they could not do the same job that a man could. Through out the years, women had started working. Women became the best workers than men for their brains and hard working. Now men and women have the same equality to any work.

Writer's  Strategy 3: ( Pathos) As a women,I have been told that women should not be doing the job that a man do at my job. Women are not allowed to carry heavy boxes even though they are 10 pounds. Women are suppose to do lighter things. Such as, clean the product, and maintain the place clean.

Rhetorical Analysis #3

Title: " Bros Before hos": The Guy Code

Author: Michael Kimmel

In the article " Bros Before hos," the author Michael Kimmel explains how men should be in today's society.  Kimmel also discusses how men are being treated if they show their feelings towards anything that will consider them being a sissy. As the  guy code means no sissy stuff. Being a man means not being a sissy, not perceiving as weak, effeminate, or gay (609). It also means " Be a big wheel," " Be a sturdy Oak," and "Give them hell." Most of the men are shown in their homes by their parents, a older brother, or a cousin.
As in my experience, I have seen my younger brother trying to act tough and not showing any strong emotions that will consider him a sissy when he is surrounded by his friends. In the other hand, my boyfriend doesn't have any problems of showing any feeling towards anything because he was thought that if he fall he could get back on his feet...and it could be a lesson learned for another hard obstacle.
If men are using the guy code, It would be hard for someone to keep everything inside. Feelings, for example, if they show these they are consider a sissy, but what  if they are tired of following the "the guy code"? Men hide all those feelings behind that " straight jacket".
