Rhetorical Analysis #2

Title: The Death of Macho
Author: Reihan Salam
Date: 2008
Topic: The era of male dominance in the employment and the economic finance is decreasing and male are becoming unemployed while women are being employed.

Analysis of Argument:

Exigence: Salam discusses how the suggestion of macho men is being faded out in today's society with unemployed men. Because of this, Salam believes there is two choices that could be made, adaption or confront today's society.     

Intended Audience: Anyone who is involved in finance. 

Purpose: To show how males on families are being changed in today's society.

Claim(s): "The era of male dominance is becoming to an end. For years, the world has been witnessing a quiet but monumental shift of power from men to women (629)."

Main Evidence: In the article, Salam explains how macho men are being unemployed more in today's society than before. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 80 percent of job losses in the United States had unemployed men since November . Europe also has the same economy percentage of unemployed men in today's society, but Europe is about 7 million more of unemployed men before the recession. Putting these two countries together, the total of unemployed macho men are 28 million out of worldwide. This means that men are being replaced by women in today's society for work. 


Rhetorical Analysis:

Writer's Strategy 1: (Ethos) The author uses strong fact and terms to help the reader understand the author's point of view towards this subject. 

Writer's Strategy 2: (Logos) Salam points out on the article that the role of men from today's society had changed after the recession. Women stopped being housewives and began to be involved in work.

Writer's Strategy 3: (Pathos) Salam uses powerful language on the article,but it shows the reader a little  emotion towards this text.

Reader Effect #1: The author’s attitude made the reader accept as true what the author was talking about and made the reader view the author’s point of view toward this issue.


Reader Effect #2: The author’s powerful facts helped to reader comprehend the text of the macho men crisis.

Reader Effect #3: The author did not use a lot of emotional connection to the reader in this article, but the facts that the author gave were enough for the reader to understand.
 
Response: I agree with Reihan Salam because in today's society there is more female in work than men. Although the global of economic of macho men is coming to an end, men can still work on their desirable career. Therefore, I agree with Salam due to the loss of macho men in today’s society.
